This is the part most pilgrims get wrong, and it costs them an evening. On a map, Berchha sits about 60 km from Nalkheda and Ujjain Junction sits at 100 km, so Berchha looks like the obvious choice. In practice it rarely is.
Berchha and Shajapur are small stations. Few express trains stop there, the ones that do often pass at inconvenient hours, and there is no dependable taxi rank waiting outside. Arriving at a quiet Malwa station at 11 PM with no onward transport is a genuinely difficult situation, particularly with family or luggage.

Ujjain Junction to Nalkheda is 100 km on NH52, through Agar Malwa. The road is in reasonable condition and the drive takes about two hours in a car.
MPSRTC buses leave from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Bus Stand, a short auto ride from the railway station. Services run roughly every 2–3 hours.
Worth it for a family or if you are arriving late. Agree the fare before starting, and confirm whether it covers the return or a wait at the temple.

Darshan at Nalkheda runs from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM, with the morning aarti at 6:00 AM and the evening aarti at 7:30 PM. Because the road leg is two hours, your train time decides which of those you can realistically attend.

The nearest airport is Indore (IDR), 156 km away, with a road journey of about 3 to 3.5 hours. Direct buses also run to Nalkheda from Indore's Sarwate Bus Terminal (₹120–180, ~3.5 hours) and from Ujjain, Dewas and Agar Malwa.
